Mel D. Kardos focuses his practice in the areas of personal injury, civil litigation, products liability, medical malpractice and criminal defense law. A native of Philadelphia, he is a graduate of Temple University, holds a master’s degree in Education from Trenton State College and received his law degree from the University of Baltimore.
He was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1975 and is admitted to practice in New Jersey and before the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mel D. Kardos founded this firm in 1981. His areas of concentration are criminal law and personal injury.
Mr. Kardos is an experienced trial attorney and has tried a significant number of criminal and civil jury trials.
Mr. Kardos has recorded “Not guilty” verdicts in a broad range of criminal cases, which have involved serious charges such as murder, attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, theft, forgery, simple assault, illegal firearms, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Mr. Kardos has represented in excess of 1000 criminal defendants in various counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well as in Federal Court.
Mr. Kardos has achieved a significant number of favorable precedent-setting Appellate Court decisions in the field of criminal law, including a reversal of a death penalty case and establishing a standard for taking breathalyzer equipment out of service.
Mr. Kardos has secured in excess of 25 million in personal injury settlements, including the precedent setting case which led to the recall of millions of unsafe disposable lighters.
He has also represented clients in Traffic Citations, License Suspension Appeals, Domestic, Worker’ Compensation, Real Estate, Contractor disputes, Entertainment, Land Development, Labor Law, Employment and Business matters.
Mr. Kardos was elected to the Board of Supervisors of Middletown Township and was Chairman of the Board for three years. During that time, the Styers Farm Acquisition and other important land preservation projects were completed, as was the construction of the new Police Station and Municipal Building.
Mr. Kardos has also served on the Board of the Bucks County Red Cross, Adjunct Prof at Temple University and Volunteer Umpire at Holland Little League.
Mr. Kardos has been recorded in Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East and Appeared on the television show 20/20 in connection with dangerous and defective disposable lighters.
